Try Of The Month

Length-of-the-field breakaways?

Twenty-phase team efforts?

A prop discovering a sidestep nobody knew about?

Rugby produces brilliant tries every single week, and most of them are only ever seen by the people stood on the touchline. Try of the Month, proudly sponsored by Butcombe Brewing Co., changes that. Film your club's best scores and send them in, a GRFU panel shortlists the standouts, and the public vote decides which senior side takes county glory and four cans of Butcombe, courtesy of our sponsor. Junior and youth tries are welcome too, and the best will be celebrated across our channels.

Get your phone out, get filming and get your club on the map.

Who can enter

All GRFU‑affiliated senior teams are eligible to enter and win the monthly prize.
Junior and youth teams may still submit tries for celebration and social media features, but they cannot win the prize due to alcohol‑related sponsorship.

How do we submit a try?

•  Upload your video via the submission form on this page, or
•  Tag @GRFUrugby and use #GRFUTryOfTheMonth on Instagram or Facebook.
Phone footage is absolutely fine — we’re looking for great rugby moments, not broadcast‑quality video.

How many tries can we submit?

As many as you like. Clubs can submit multiple tries throughout the month, from any match week.

How are the shortlisted tries chosen?

A small GRFU panel reviews all submissions weekly and selects a shortlist of standout tries.
This ensures quality, keeps the poll engaging, and avoids a public vote with too few entries.

How does the public vote work?

•  Shortlisted tries appear in a simple poll on this page.
•  Voting is open to players, supporters, families, and the wider rugby community.
•  The poll is promoted across Instagram and Facebook to maximise engagement.
•  Voting stays open for a set period.

What is the prize?

The monthly winner receives four cans of Butcombe, provided by our sponsor.
Because the prize contains alcohol, only senior teams are eligible to win.

How are prizes distributed?

GRFU contacts the winning club directly and arranges delivery or collection of the prize.
Winners are also featured across GRFU social channels.

When are winners announced?

Winners are announced monthly on the website and across GRFU social media channels.
